We have just released a new version of the TabSplit android app. This version allows creating, viewing and modifying of all transaction types. This includes an new view for Joint Payments which can be used to enter a payment which is shared equally across a group (e.g. a hotel bill – or as in the example on the right a gasoline bill).

This version also adds support for editing payments which completes support for all three transaction types of tabsplit. We hope to gather feedback on how to improve each dialog (Quick Entry, Payments, Joint Payments) so we find a balance between simplicity for first time users, streamlined entering for more experienced users as well as displaying as much information as possible about a transaction.

As always, find TabSplit 0.6 in the android market! (You can now even install it on your SD Card, so no excuses if you have no space left on your device :) )

Have you ever asked yourself why you owe a friend quite a bit of money or wanted to find out if someone has not paid back for quite some while. You can now view a detailed timeline of all debt changes for a friend. Simply go to the list of your friends and click the new ‘Debt History’ link.

This is still an experimental feature, so i welcome feedback on what data would be most interesting – it currently shows the whole balance (and not the single debt changes). On the same page you can also find a table containing all debts and loans you see in the chart.

The Tab Split Android App has just got an overhauled quick entry dialog! Saves quite a bit of screen space and it should be much smoother now. Simply select all participants for the Tab (using the green plus sign) which will bring you to the new contact select dialog which allows you to filter (search) by name and also add new friends (in the android options menu).

You can already get the new version at the Android Market! This version also fixes quite a few bugs. Here is the whole Changelog:

  1. Photos of tabs are now downloaded correctly
  2. Reworked Quick Entry Dialog
  3. New dialog for selecting participants
  4. Fixed problem which could lead to duplicate tab items
  5. Fixed bug deleting transactions
  6. Fixed bug which prevented added contacts to be synced to server (Also invitation mail was not sent)

We have just finished another nice feature – the ability to create payments with more than two participants. You can add as much payers and participants to a Joint Payment as you like. This is useful if one person of a group pays something for the whole group and you don’t need to break it down into individual items like with a Tab.

So if you want to share your last gasoline bill from your last trip (or wakeboard session ;-) ) you can now simply add it as a Joint Payment!

You can now easily add multiple email address to your profile in TabSplit. These secondary email addresses will be found if other users enter them when adding payments or tabs, but will never show up for any of your contacts. You will still get notifications to your primary email address.

When adding secondary email address you will have to confirm each of them.

So, what is TabSplit all about? It allows you to keep track of all loans and debts between you and your friends. So if you go out and share a tab it’s easy to split it up between your friends and know who has paid the tab and who owes you the remaining money.

TabSplit is still in early beta, so check back regularly. Currently it consists of a web interface and a very basic Android application. There are many things which are still missing and on our Todo list, but the two main features already work:

  • Tabs (or “Itemized Bills”): If you pay in a bar or restaurant for your friends you can take a photo of the receipt to remember who had which item. We will than sum up all totals so you know where to collect your money!
  • Payments: If you have collected the money or paid someone back don’t forget to record it! Payments can also be used if you lend someone money.
I will soon describe each of those two features in more detail, but for now this should give you a rough idea of what to expect. Just head over to https://tabsplit.com/ and play around!
If you have any feedback, just leave it here :)
